Frequently Asked Questions
Is Radex licensed to do radon testing in South Carolina?
Be wary of companies that claim to be "licensed" to conduct radon testing. There is no SC or national license for radon testing. There are two common private certifying bodies, the AARST-NRPP and the NRSB however these are optional professional organizations and many testers in unregulated states (such as SC) do not belong to them. Additionally, only individuals, and not companies can be certified by them. Radex previously offered testing by certified technicians, however to keep prices low for you, we no longer offer services certified by these private entities.
What are Radex's qualifications?
Every one of our technicians have passed a certified Advanced Radon Measurement Service Provider Course as well as passed an independent radon measurement test . We also have staff with a background in nuclear technology who oversees test processing. Additionally, all equipment is calibrated by a national radon calibration laboratory on an annual basis. We also employ EPA recommended testing protocols.
What if I test positive for radon during a DIY home test?
If your home tests positive for a DIY home test a second DIY home test is required to make sure that the first test was accurate. The results from the first and second test will be averaged together and if the average is above the 4.0 pCi/l limit established by the EPA radon remediation will be recommended.
