Why GPS?

Why rent a personal GPS? When you step foot into nature's back yard you never know what might happen. The best planned trips could still end in mayhem and disaster. It makes sense to bring a life line with you so that you can keep communicate with the outside world wherever you are. That way help is only a button away.

The Find Me Spot website claims to have well over 4,700 Rescues at the time of writing. Nature is beautiful, however it can also be very dangerous. Being safe is all about having the right kind of gear and a reliable personal tracking beacon is exactly what you need!

Why not buy you're own? That may be a very good option for some, however, you would have to hike ALOT to make it worth it. The units that we rent are available for purchase in many outdoors stores and one online retail websites. However, the devices are extremely expensive and require annual contracts to use. Let's consider the costs:

Initial Purchase of GPS Unit: MSRP 169.95 USD

Mandatory Annual Service Contract: 14.95 USD / Month*

Network Maintenance Fee: 9.99 USD / Month

*Base Rate; Additional Features Cost More

TOTAL EXPENSE FOR FIRST YEAR: 329.93 USD

With a startup cost well over 300 dollars for just one year of service GPS units are not worth it for most hikers. If you only hike occasionally it makes sense to be more efficient with your money and rent for your specific trip. Our process is simple and the rental rates are relatively low. See the "Services and Prices" page for more details.
